    Tayforth Birding

Forfar Loch with Ian Graham (Arbroath Birder) & my bairn, Sam this afternoon Very good session - over 40 species seen. We are stumped on a species of duck however. It was on the wee spit off the first viewpoint (where the Ring Necked Duck was) It was roosting the whole time so we never got a...

    Stormont Loch, Perthshire

Theres about three clearings along the track which give a half decent view of the loch . (As a former fisherman myself, I can tell that the clearings have probably been created by fisherman to give a space for casting out etc, what a mess of discarded cans etc there was. :( ) No sign of a hide!

    Stormont Loch, Perthshire

Me and Ian Graham had a walk round Stormont last Wednesday. I've passed it from the road so many times without havin ga look. The first thing that struck us was the amount of Mute Swan!! - I counted 120 but that was only from one clearing and there could realistically have been upwards of...

    Crombie Country Park

This place is really bonny. The water itself is cracking, with lots of open spots and other nice wee secluded bays. There is a huge amount of very varied woodland - birch, conifers, mature park like stands and theres also some scrub and small patches of moorland. So why have I always frankly...

    How many lists?

Alright min?! I keep a scottish list, a UK list and a world list. Also keep a yearly Scottish list. I keep a garden list, my shop close list, and a list of a few reserves, thats when it gets tricky, coz what if you see a bird from the reserve thats new for your list, but the bird is actually...

    New member, complete novice

a wee tip from me to help with the wee birds. - Do you have a garden? If so, get a feeding station out - you'll soon get the hang of the wee stuff that turns up , and that should help when your out and about for when you see something unfamiliar! If you dont have a suitable garden , then try...

    Tayforth Birding

regarding Jays in Dundee, i have seen a puckle at the edge of the caird park on the road toward the trottick mill ponds, but the 'hot' spot for me just now is any patch of grass beside the 'swallow hotel' roundabout (or whatever its called now), think the last half dozen times i've driven past...

Funny gull at Princes Street Gardens

This was on Wednesday, sorry to leave it so late. Me and the wife were killing a bit of time. WE were aitting on a bench at the top path. I was watching the Herring and Black backed gulls, and then this odd gull appeared and sat on the fence by the road. It was probably a second year, and it...

Going for a trip up Glen Esk this week with Arbroath Birder. Couple of questions for you all!! When I go up (usually with my faither) the non driver keeps an eye out (everywhere) and we stop (if its safe!!) if he sees something interesting. We always have a good stop at Tarfside - a walk...
