    Harrier ID Thailand

I've done some research on the net and none any wiser. All I know is the Eastern as opposed to Western is the usual Harrier occurring in Thailand during the migration period. I have a few more pics if needed. These were taken y'day 25th Oct 2018. Please help and thanks in advance.

Autofocus fail for distant subjects. 7D2+5D3

I love to shoot BIF (raptors) and the place I visit the birds are very far away. Occasionally they do approach to about 50 meters to me but most times they are about 100m or beyond where most of the predating action occurs. With birds against the sky the focus acquisition is satisfactory but...

Juvenile Crested Serpent Eagle at play?

I took this sequence of shots from a watch tower at a wetlands park in Malaysia. I don't know what to make of this but I only noticed the bit of leaf it appeared to drop and play with after I viewed the pics on my PC. The sequence started with it stalling mid-air and dropping the leaf and then...

    Raptor ID-Malaysia

    Canon 500F4 IS mk1 f4 vs f8

I've had this lens for awhile and am very happy with it so far till today when I got it out of my dry cabinet in preparation for a trip. I thought I'd make sure everything is fine by mounting it on my tripod and taking a few test shots at a piece of paper with fine text placed about 6 or 7...

Couple of raptors from NE Thailand.

Two separate birds here, both from lower NE Thailand. Sorry for poor quality photos. They are beyond my ability to ID other than being Accipiters. Thanks and Merry X'mas and Happy New Year to all.

    Flycatcher and Raptor. NE Thailand

Could be flycatcher but unsure. Series of 'tac' notes heard. Seen cocking and fanning tail often. Only these belly shots. Habitat: Secondary growth fringing a large reservoir. Lower NE Thailand. Elev: approx 200 meters. Raptor is from similar habitat. Thanks in advance.

    Tern ID, NE Thailand.

Took these pics at a reservoir and I am unable to positively ID it despite using Robson's guide. Probably a very common bird as they seem to appear each year about this time. First 2 pics are of a single individual and 3rd pic is a different bird. Thanks in advance.

    Couple more Warblers (NE Thailand)

As usual, these always give a novice like me great difficulty in ID'ing them. Help sought once again and thanks for your input.

    Warbler ID from NE Thailand.

I took these pics from Phu Khieo Wildlife Sanctuary in NE Thailand. I am thinking either Dusky or Radde's but could be wrong. I find it really tough to call. Please help and thanks in advance.

Loss of detail on resizing for web.

I have problems trying to retain detail on down-sizing for web display. The original RAW file has lots of detail before and after PP via ACR or Lightroom. Then I choose save as Jpeg, the saved file still has lots of detail. It's only when I resize from the saved jpeg typical file size of 1.5 to 2...

Warbler like bird, Phu Khieo, Thailand.

Firstly, this is a re-post from the main Bird ID sub-forum and I hope I have not broken any rules by moving it here. I couldn't get any positive ID there so I'll try it here instead. My apologies if I have gone against forum rules. Found this one at a lake on an 'island of reeds'. Phu Khieo...

Warbler like bird, Phu Khieo, Thailand.

Found this one at a lake on an 'island of reeds'. Phu Khieo Wildlife Sanctuary, Thailand. Don't know what to make of it as it appears to have a whitish chest/belly. Pics are heavily cropped as bird was very far away. No PP applied other than cropping and a little sharpeniing. Thanks for help.

    Babbler ID, Phu Khieo, Thailand.

This one showed up late in the evening and I heard its call sounding like 'pree..pree..pree' repeated frequently. Haven't a clue what it is. Thanks in advance.

Robin like bird. Phu Khieo, Thailand

I got this one from Phu Khieo wildlife sanctuary, Thailand. It looks like a female White-tailed Robin but the elevation of this place is barely 500meters which sort of rules it out. What then could it be? Thanks.

    Pitta ID, Khao Yai,Thailand.

I am very pleased to capture these images from Khao Yai NP after many attempts but I am unsure whether it's a Blue or Banded Pitta. The nearly unbroken banding on its chest suggests Banded but according to my guide book the Banded is only found in southern Thailand. Thanks in advance.

Asian Brown Flycatcher? Bueng Boraphet, Thailand.

I took these pics from Bueng Boraphet, Thailand and I thought it's the Asian Brown initially but having a closer look now I am not too sure as the lower mandible base is not yellowish, which if I am not mistaken, ought to be. The flanks also seem to be rufous so that puzzled me more. Pics are...

    Battery drain on 1D2N

Hope someone here can help me this; A little while back I bought a used 1D2N and everything works fine except that I noticed the battery pack will quickly exhaust itself if I leave the main On/Off switch turned on. I should add the battery is not in top condition but is it normal for it to...

Is this a Prinia? (NE Thailand)

Been through my usual guidebook as well as OBC database but still am stumped by this one. I believe it's a prinia but can't decide which one. The greyish face in this photo is probably due to shadow cast by the twig on the bird's left. My apologies for an overexposed photo. Thanks in advance.

I found this one on a dirt track leading to farmland in Isaan, NE Thailand. Only managed a few low quality shots before it disappeared into bush. I am unsure of its ID. Appreciate some help. Thanks in advance.

    Owlet, NE Thailand

I am unsure whether this is a Spotted or Asian-barred Owlet or even completely off the mark. As per the guide I am using, Spotted Owlet hasn't any lateral barring on its chest/breast area. Thanks in advance.

I took these this afternoon when the sun finally made an appearance. They're heavy crops as it was perched high and near vertical. I estimate physical size to be around 10 to 12 cm. Location: Open farmland with isolated thickets; Korat/Nakhon Ratchasima; Elevation: 200m; My first thought was...

    Which Minivet? North-east Thailand

Took this awhile back and still unsure of its true ID. I think it could either be grey-chinned or long-tailed. Or am I completely wrong? This was taken at a temple ground adjacent to a low hill in rural Thailand (Korat/Nakhon Ratchasima). Elevation is estimated to be around 300m. Help gratefully...
