Tern - Ythan Estuary (1 Viewer)

I had been looking at my picture of these terns and noticed that the left hand one seems to have a much longer tail and also a sleeker profile when compared with the Arctic Tern. Could it be a Roseate? I don't think they are common at this site. Picture taken last Monday.

Your thoughts greatly appreciated.

Cheers

John

From left to right:
Arctic, Sandwich, Arctic, Little, Little.

Hope you had a good trip to Aberdeenshire.

Thanks Andrew. I thought it was Arctic but just checking to save me worrying. A great trip, as always, to the area. The scenery is just stunning. Only downside was the weather (snow, sleet and hail) in Cairngorm area.

Left-hand bird is a first- or second-summer subadult; hence the blackish bill and dark carpal bar on the wing. The "much longer tail" is actually the wingtip :t:
