Bird Removal Ideas (1 Viewer)

Up until last week, I have enjoyed my feeder being frequented by lovely song birds but about last week the cowbirds found out about my feeder. Now they wait in the above trees and when I put my feed out they wait about 5 minutes and then absolutely invade my feeder area in numbers of up to 50! and will clear all my seed out in 30 minutes. What is the best way to make these pest go away?

What type of seed are you using? We have used safflower in the past when the Grackles get too ravenous. Cardinals and finches still eat it (though they took a few days to get used to it), but the Grackles mostly leave it alone. IIRC Cowbirds like millet and even the "filler" seeds in cheap mixes, so if you're using something like that you should probably switch.

In any case, the Cowbirds are probably migrating at the moment, so they will move on eventually. Leaving the feeder empty might even hasten their departure.
