Tamron 80-210mm lens (1 Viewer)

Having just bought new Canon EOS450D and only having the "kit" lens, someone has generously gave me a Tamron 80-210mm AF (f 4.5-5.6) lens for a little bit extra reach.

I know I will need something a lot bigger eventually, but I was wondering if anyone else has had experience with this lens and what the optimum range and F-stop would be.
