Wide angle in ATS 65 HD..? (1 Viewer)

Hello,
Anyone to know which is the max. field in the ATS 65 HD scope with an astronomical adapter 1.25" and a good wide angle eyepiece astro?
Thanks

I suspect that the maximum field would not be much more than 60 m @ 1000 m.

There used to be a 20 x Swaro fixed focal length (23 mm) eyepiece and I tried one out on my ATM 65HD but was not impressed. It had an AFOV around 65° but the eye relief was shorter and the edge sharpness not as good as my 30x W.

Either the 22 mm Vixen LVW (for 21x) or the 21x Baader Hyperion (for 22x) would probably work but it would still be advisable to check beforehand that you can achieve infinity focus. Longer focal lengths would likely vignette.

Since you're limited to 1.25" eyepieces, you really can't gain anything over the Swarovski 20x eyepiece, at least in terms of field of view. The 24mm TeleVue Panoptic givens essentially the same field of view and magnification (19x and 3.4 degrees).

The true field is determined by your telescope's focal length (460mm) and the eyepiece's field stop diameter. In an 1.25" eyepiece, the maximum field stop size is about 27mm.

Clear skies, Alan
