Hide clamps & stabilisation (1 Viewer)

This is my first post, please go easy on me! Has anyone got experience of using BOTH the Manfrotto 349 hide clamp and the Velbon Hide Clamp II? Which one is more stable? Weight and price obviously goes to Velbon, but is it really flimsy as well? I'm looking to mount a Kowa 773 w/ 20-60 zoom, using a 28mm Feisol centre column. I've also seen suggestions of using bean bags instead of clamps, are there people who have tried all three and have a preference? Are there other clamps/methods to consider? Much obliged.

I have the earlier version of the Velbon clamp, which was OK until the shelving on the hides I visit were replaced with thicker ones.

I then bought, second hand, the Manfrotto which accommodates thicker shelves. It is sturdier but heavier too.
