Juvenile Gull UK (1 Viewer)

Hi

Can anyone help me with identification of the attached.

It was in the garden so I would expect Herring Gull but the colours were more Black/White than the usual Grey/Brown and the bill looked darker. Photo taken in low light levels so this may have affected the colours.

Thanks
Martin

Yes Herring gull - note the 'oak-leaf' scalloped pattern on the tertials, and the chequerboard pattern all along the secondaries. Both good indicators.

Base colour seems to vary quite a lot from almost chocolate-brown to grey.
