Peculiar little green guy, Arenal Costa Rica (1 Viewer)

alanc

Just an earthbound misfit
England
This seen at The Arenal Observatory Lodge over Christmas.
I can't pin it down. It looks like a juvenile to me but surely not this time of year.
Any comments appreciated
thanks

Yes, I thought of that but I think Arenal might be too high elevation for Manakins and from the little I know of them I thought they were birds of the thick forest - this guy was actually in the hotel gardens

If you look on Ebird you can see that White-ruffed and White-collared are found around Arenal, and White-crowned and Red-capped to a lesser extent. I've just lent my Costa Rica Field guide out, so will leave you to check those options, but I wouldn't let it being in a hotel garden bother you as long as there's forest fairly adjacent.

Thankyou Andy and JNW. From your pointers I think I have narrowed it down to White-ruffed.
cheers alan
