Amateur's question about birds and cooling tower (1 Viewer)

Hello ~ I have a question about something I noticed on a boat ride with relatives yesterday. We passed a large electricial power plant that is on the river nearby. A number of fairly large birds were circling the 3 cooling towers, one tower in particular.

I wondered if they were catching air currents up there. Or if there were more insects near the towers, for some reason. Or maybe they're nesting inside the towers? I have no idea and no knowledge to give even a good supposition.

I took pictures but have not uploaded them as yet. Not sure they will show the phenomenon well anyway.

I thought some of you bird-wise people would surely have the answer. I'm just curious and interested. Thanks.

Hi ST,

Welcome to BF.

I'd hazard a guess at them using the thermals over the towers. Like to see the photos though.
