I have only ever seen one Jay at a time before..but today 3 together - do they stay in family groups at this time of year?

I'm sure my friend from Finland will have also seen the same, but in our part of the world they are quite large autumn movements most years from late August through to October, with some of the population dispersing and migrating - on accasion I've seen flocks of up to 30 or 40 at this time. Unlikely in a British setting to see such congregations, but certainly should get family parties.

Four in my garden today emptying my sunflowere feeder!

In autumn you quite often get concentrations of a few Jays coming together to collect acorns from the same tree. This is maybe what you noticed if there were any oak trees around.
