Apple Feeder - not my idea but a good one (1 Viewer)

Tres Cool!
I give half apples on the ground that are appreciated by robins, starlings and one thrush who hangs about under the hedge when the going gets tough.
Finches have enjoyed apple halves stuck in the crook of tree branches when there has been snow.

I like that hanging method and it looks good too, adding some colour to winter.

I've got an apple feeder up and there's been no interest whatsoever, must be the abundance of other foodstuffs available in my garden...........

There's still only been a little interest in the apples in our garden but I put up three apples in the hedgerow opposite the house today and the blue tits were investigating within a minute. I'm guessing the better cover in the hedge may be a factor.

They eat apple from there then fly across the road to eat fat mix, peanuts or sunflower hearts in the garden. And ignore the apples which are next to them!

Try this method it works very good,Knock some nails into some branches on your tree, then just push the apples onto the nails, ive had Blackbirds,Fieldfare's,Redwing's,Songthrush and even the Robin's feeding on them

not tried the apple feeder yet but just made a hole all the way through the centre of an apple with a knife and have threaded it on a twig in the lilac bush. I'll keep watch to see if it is used.

The only interest I've seen in the apple feeder is from the squirrels. I'm going to wait until spring when I put in some more plants before I put it back up. I'm thinking mine was too far out in the open. I like the idea of staking them in some potted plants.

blue tits have investigated the one I made, it has cooked potatoes on it too...however not a lot of action on it at all. I take it it makes a difference as to how ripe the apples are to start with? i.e. the riper the better?

@missybird I have used ripe unripe red green and most popular seems to be red they dont seem to be that choosy.

I've put some on the lawn - cut up, and have had blackbirds eating them but thats all. I will try putting them on branches from the trees or in the hedgerow.
