I'd be so grateful for ANY info on these binocs. They were my grandfather's who died in 1973. I can't see any info on them at all except for 8 x 32. Thank you so much.

I don't even see 8x. 32 would be unusual, bins of this age tended to be 30mm. Clear photos of whatever looks like markings would help. They may just be impressions if the white paint has worn off.

Thank you. I'll put some more photos on later. On my phone, the photos I took are perfectly clear but was dismayed to see that wasn't the case when I'd uploaded them. I will try again.

They look acceptably sharp to me and the main lacking aspect is that we can’t see any numbers other than the diopter adjustment scale. Try to show a picture at least of where it says 8x32.
While on the subject of your grandfather, do you happen to have any recollection of him using them back when he was still around?

No I don't remember him using them but he went into care when I was 9 or so, so I probably wouldn't. However my dad used them until my mum died but he then bought some more.

I can just see 8x32, with only the 8x clear.

I would also expect the binocular to be 8x30 at the time made.

These 'antique' binoculars are probably worth £10 to £15.

However, I think the binocular should be kept as part of the family history.

Regards,
B.

More pictures which are as clear as a bell my end so I hope they transfer ok.

The photos are clear with 8x32.

Does the front centre cap unscrew to reveal anything underneath?

I still think the binocular was made in France.
About 1950.

There were import restrictions, something like a maximum of £5 wholesale for cameras and probably binoculars.

Scientists and doctors could get more expensive items. I got a camera via a pharmacist.

It was common for the cases to be made in England to fit the imported item.

Purchase tax was 45%.

Britain was essentially bankrupt and rationing may not have ended.
We still have ration books somewhere.
We had dozens of bags of sugar for no reason.

When petrol rationing was reintroduced in the 1970s?, the ration books were actually the same ones as the 1940s.
I don't think we actually used the old ones to get petrol.

I don't know if the binocular says France anywhere or maybe Huet.

B.

Thanks for input. Yes I never expected them to be worth mega bucks but was intrigued by them as they had no markings at all but grateful for any thoughts. Ah, you're assuming I have someone to leave them to.... I'm currently putting my house in order and was starting with these.
