Took this bird away from my cat this morning. It is big, but we think it is a baby. Long beak, super big feet. Also, it is aggresive, but that could be it just wanted to get away from us. Kept it in a box for about an hour to make sure it wasn't injured. Took off pretty good when we let him out of the box.

We live in rural Central Texas. Can't find pictures of it on any site. Just wandering what kind of bird it is.

Thanks.

Hi MariaMac and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. It looks rather like a rail, maybe Clapper Rail if they're found in your area. You can read more about them here in our Opus article: Clapper Rail - BirdForum Opus

Someone will no doubt be along soon to confirm that or give another identification.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Thank you. Yes, looks like that is what it is. Glad we could save it from our cat. She is a prolific hunter and I don't mind her getting mice, but I rather hate to see her get a bird. She probably caught it at our front pond as that was the direction she was coming from. I don't think it was injured. Hope it does well. Thanks for the welcome!
