Finally sorted through my pics from a trip a year ago, but have a few I'm unsure of. Here's the first five (I think the first two are both White-ringed Flycatchers).

Can't disagree with 1-2
3 Palm Tanager
4 Male Olive-backed Euphonia

Thanks again. Don't know why I didn't get the Olive-backed Euphonia! I think 5 may be a Social Flycatcher? - the bill seems quite short and I don't think the white superciliaries meet at the back (although it's hard to tell in this photo). Ear coverts also don't seem as black, but that might be the poor light.

I am not sure why 1 and 2 wouldn’t be Social fly?

Niels

I find these really difficult. Obviously, a complete white nape ring makes a bird white-ringed, but we can't (quite) see this here. The white is extensive but it can be on social fly as well. The bill of white-ringed should be longer, straighter, less stubby but again photos suggest this can be less than clear-cut. Perhaps a consistent difference is that iris of white-ringed is very dark, of social paler (but not necessarily pale). Here I don't think it's dark enough.

On this basis, I'd tentatively identify all these as social fly.

Like I said, I find these really hard and I'd welcome other views...

I would lean towards Social Flycatchers as well. For me White-ringed is smaller-headed and thinner billed, perches more upright, tends to be in the canopy, and is far, far, far less common.

Glad it's not just me! I wouldn't be surprised if White-ringed Flycatcher is one of the most heavily, how shall I put it, over-claimed species within its range.

I agree. Looking back through my notes, I only saw White-ringed on one day. I suspect I didn't manage to get ANY photos of it!
