Report in hide book of 4 Kite on 27th Feb....and coincidentally theres a sign on Moors Lane for a Kite Barn...a feeding station maybe ?

Was having a typical quiet time here this morning with just Canadas and Mallards then a Little Grebe shot out of its hiding place and looked very angry...lol.
After that all the other locals showed up.....
Moorhen
Blackbird
Rook
A Corvid chasing a Raven
2 Buzzards over the woods
As I was leaving I had at least 4 more Buzzards in distance over the ridge to the east ( wishing they were Kites...lol )...
and to top it off I have finally nabbed one of the nameless species...asleep in the day and white but I am sure I am not allowed to mention its name...

WHINCHAT this morning along the hedge between the 1st and 2nd fields from car park.
Also I had a Lure in my pocket and while watching the Whinchat a Male Emperor Moth was all over me. It came within a few minutes so couldn't have been too far away.
Cuckoo eventually turned up around midday ....heard all around the reserve but I never saw him by the time I left around 12.30.

A mixture of not getting out much and some awful wet weather has meant i havent had a lot of sightings here. The dragons/damsels all but disappeared after 1st rains that filled the dragon pool. This and a lack of flowers and now cattle trampling things didnt give the insects much of a chance.Yesterday though it was alive in the sun with 100's of Red Admirals and even more Hornets. I am sure Hornets must be a success story as I never used to see any years ago and now they are everywhere. Also had a Brimstone and a Comma.
I did have Brown Hairstreak in July by the Dragon Pool and an August at the main Pool and yesterday finally had a Damsel....a brief fly through of a Willow Emerald.
Birds......not a lot.
