I haven't seen this particular bird in my backyard before. He's small with a striped head and a yellow-buff belly. Any ideas?

This is the best year for Red-breasted Nuthatches in the southeast in decades, if not ever. I have had up to five in one day at Cedar Key, part way down the FL Peninsula on the Gulf Coast. There are many all across the Panhandle, where the OP photographed the one above.

Such a good looking bird. I told my folks in Pennsylvania to keep an eye out this winter - but hadn't realized they had gotten all the way down to Florida!

We do not get this bird here in Missouri in the winter every year, but this year we have three (3) of them coming to our bird feeders. They love peanuts!

There has been a massive outbreak in the southwest too. I've seen 12 in the past two months, and they are rare in my area. Many parts of Los Angeles have been seeing them too, even in places where White-breasted are not normally seen.
