Hi all
Only just signed up there. Got a general, vague interest in wildlife but wouldn’t normally have thought myself interested enough to sign up to a forum. However, I’m working a night shift tonight at my work which is in the middle of urban Lanarkshire, although next to a slither of green belt between Hamilton and East Kilbride, and something has piqued my interest.
During the night some birds having been making a racket, making a high pitched call. It’s now daylight and I heard them again in the car park, looked out and I saw two large black and white birds with orange beaks. A quick google search reveals them to be Oystercatchers?! I always thought a bird like that, as much as I knew about them, would hang around the coast - clue is in the name - but sure enough we have a pair here in a car park surrounded by office blocks. Is this common for these birds to do this, Or might they be here because it’s not far from farmland and greenery? I should say Calderglen Country park isn’t far, might that be an attraction for them? I’d be interested to read the thoughts of experienced folk on here.
Anyway, we’ll see if this is the start of a long relationship with bird watching!
