Help identify this bird (UK)

Hello,

We've had this bird and its friend visiting our garden over the past few days and at first I thought it was a sparrow but it looks different.

Is it a sparrow? If not, what is it? :)

Location: UK
Date: June 2015

Sorry about the picture quality, couldn't get a better zoom without disturbing!

Its perfectly good for an identification in this case and a darn sight better than many that are posted; your bird is a Dunnock!

Hi sunsetinrio and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

Dunnocks are super little birds to have in the garden, but usually quite difficult to see as they are often foraging under shrubs. They have the most beautiful little song too. You could start your research on them in our Opus article: Dunnock.

Thanks for the welcome and link :)

We've been making a conscious effort to try and get as many birds into the garden as possible in the last 12 months so this new addition is exciting as there isn't a lot of wildlife around here.

Are they a fan of mealworms? We put these out regular as we have some Tits that visit (not sure what type they are actually, so I may have to take a picture and get another ID! :) )

I don't know any garden bird that doesn't like mealworms LOL. I use dried ones which I soak overnight.

It might be an idea to pop over to the Garden Bird forum to discuss the best types of food to use. Once you start feeding it does seem to attract more species in.

Yeah you're certainly right there. I spotted a Goldfinch the other day but he didn't stay :(

Thanks, will head over to there.
