On our way through Europe, we saw lots of this near the sides of the road.... This was photographed in Austria. Is it Chicory?

Looks like it. A very Stephanomeria-esque plant with serrated ray flowers all along a tall stem.

Bit jealous because I've been specifically searching for this species for over a decade...:t:
 
In contintental Europe this species is very abundant along road verges (also along highways), so if you are looking for this species, just cross the canal....
