Looking for Binocular recommendations in the $300-$500 range. (1 Viewer)

I have tried most of the 8x42 binoculars in the $300 to $500 range, and I liked the Vortex Viper HD 8x42 the best. It comes very close to the performance of the $1000 8x42 binoculars at a lot lower price point. Surprisingly, Cabella's has the best price on the Vortex Viper HD 8x42 right now for $449.98 and if you could fly with a 10x42 they have the Vortex Viper HD 10x42 for $299.97.

Dennis is back! Hey Dennis.

Actually it’s not, it’s better than the 2018 replacement, better light transmission, shorter close focus, smaller, lighter and not MIC.

You mentioned before these were assembled in Phillipines. While Cabelas is now showing these with 319 ft FOV ( a couple months back before they disappeared from their site) they showed 341 ft. I am wondering if your box does not say 341 ft ? And also has a copyright on the box of 2020 ?

I would offer the following under £400/$500 roofs, with best at the top:

Celestron Regal ED flat field FoV 420 ft (140 m)
Svbony SV202 FoV 131m
Barr and Stroud Series 5 FoV 142m
Celestron Trailseeker
Vanguard Spirit SF
Celestron Nature DX
Barr and Stroud Sierra

List now updated with notable FoV info. for 8x42s

Hi Lilcrazy2

Good question, I think these are 319. I’ll have to check the box when I get back next week. My guess is that these are not old stock (pre 2018) and are being made or were being made not long ago for Cabela’s sales. I believe the the 2018+ China model has the 341ft. That’s possibly why they can say they’re new and improved from the earlier HD (MIJ/MIP)model.

First part is to show more info: the binocular is not made in Japan, acording to the author of the answer.
The second part is to ask the question.
Yes that is the model of Allbinos review and they’re made in the Philippines.

Any opinion on Leupold Bx-4 8x32? They are $100 off through 4/3/2023? So now looking at Leupold, Optricron Verano and GPO Passion or Spectra. I suspect they are all pretty similar for wildlife /birds.Leupold and Opticron are made in Japan. Opticron are tougher to find.

If you can find the BX-4 in stock somewhere and you like how it fits, my advice is to go for it. It is a very good, and highly competitive glass.
