Hi there and a warm welcome to you from the entire staff here at BirdForum :t: I'm sure someone will be along shortly with suggestion.

Your bird is a Merlin

And welcome to BirdForum. Nice user name you have! I spent the first 20 or so years of my life in Cheadle Hulme.

Welcome to Birdforum! Nice pictures of the Merlin. I lived in Cheadly Hulme for many years too!

Thanks, all, for the ids and the welcomes. The pronounced supercilium raised doubts as Collins (Svensson) doesn't show this. So that's two things learnt today, the other being Cheadle Hulme's fame (out of all proportion to its merits!).

Yep it's a Merlin. Welcome to the Forum.

Simon (who has neither visited nor heard of Cheadle Hulme). ;)
