Release of Injured Pileated Woodpecker Question (1 Viewer)

We took a Pileated Woodpecker injured on our property to a wildlife rehabilitation center that is about 10 miles away. The bird is recovering well and is expected to be released in the next couple of days. We asked if we could release the bird on our property when it is ready. Personnel at the rehabilitation center seemed reluctant about this and commented, "If the bird wants to return there it will find its way." I am not so sure about this and I want to advocate with them for a release where we recovered the bird. What do you think?

I kind of agree with you. Could one of the caretakers bring the bird to your home when it is ready to be released?
