Is the where you post photos for the gallery? Seeing as it's the only vaguely pic-oriented forum I can find I'm assuming it is.
Almost a week ago now I visited Perry Lakes, which is one of the many lakes near where I live. I was rather disappointed with the birding there, the lakes were mainly dry and all I had seen were the usual Pacific black ducks and one white-faced heron.
As I was walking back to my car I noticed a kookaburra sitting in a tree in a burnt out area on the lake shore. I also saw what I thought were feathers in a fork of the tree. Now most of the time when I think I see a bird imitating a branch it's usually a branch imitating a branch. But this time I was shocked and pleasantly surprised to find two Tawny Frogmouths sitting in the fork of the tree. I was able to get close enough to get two great photos of them as well. They were aware I was there (as you can see the front tawny even turned to look right at me) but didn't seem massively bothered, I quickly took my photos and left them in peace.
I still can't believe I found them right there. But then, I have the photos to prove it!
