Lost monopod

I'm pretty confident that someone will pick it up and possibly return it to Thornley Woods Visitor Centre.
I'll forward your message to our Friends of Red Kites Secretary, who is a volunteer at Thornley Woodlands Centre and he will make the staff aware if anyone drops by with it. I may be there this week and I'll mention it.
Presumably I can always send you a PM from here, can't I?

Bit of a request from a friend of mine who isn't a member of the forum.
Anyway they were at Far Pasture today 18/06/13 and were in the lane adjacent the wood yard watching the kites and roe deer in adjacent field. However they had parked in the entrance to the wood yard - when the owner turned up. They moved the car and the wood yard owner allowed them to park inside the yard - but when they moved the car they left a Gitzo monopod half way along the lane - completely forgot about it and after a good natter with the wood yard owner drove off leaving the monopod against the fence half way along the lane.

If anyone was in the area today and has found said monopod if you send me a PM with your contact details and i'll pass those on to the owner who will be extremely grateful to get it back..

Thanks in advance

Hi June - that will be great - i suggested that the owner check with the woodlands centre as thats where i would take anything if i found it..

I'm happy to receive PM's via Bird Forum on their behalf - i'll then pass info / contact details on - its better that way than listing mobile / personal details on a public forum.

Thanks again....

Kibblesworth Pools

This site has great potential as a Nature Reserve but it's never going to happen. Over the last few years it has turned into a very large dogs toilet.
Ground nesting birds are not very numerous although this is also partly down to land management (cutting during wrong time of year). I used to think that responsible dog owners where in the majority but over the last few years at this site and similar ones I now realise they are very much in the Minority. There were two transit vans from a dog grooming or dog walking company here today with several dogs (do they clean up after them?). While walking around main pond a dog walker with 3dogs on leashes and one roaming free came towards the pond, he then released the dogs that ran straight into pond chasing a pair of swans (swans did stand up against them). He shouted at the dogs to come away and muttered "stupid dogs" (umm the dogs didn't release themselves).
Unfortunately not a site to take family for a walk.
Sorry for taking up space just felt I had to get it o0ff my chest.

Good news story - monopod picked up by a group of walkers and taken to Thornley Woodlands - office closed so then taken to local police station - owner contacted via message in hide log book and arrangements being made with Police to collect it later.

Just goes to prove there are plenty of decent people out there :t:

Red Kite Gateways for Rowlands Gill

Our red kites have inspired many things from glass kites created by Rena Holford of Winlaton Mill, to a Ruby ale created by Wylam Brewery!

The latest news is of new signage for Rowlands Gill. Go to our website for all the details. The model and information can be seen at Thornley Woodlands Centre and the Public Library.

These new signs will be an attractive addition to our Home of the Red Kites in the Derwent Valley. The signs have been made by Craig Knowles, an artist blacksmith based in Sunderland.
