La découverte de cette espèce, que je dédie à M. le lieutenant de vaisseau Ingouf, ancien commandant du Volage, permet de reculer de plus de 10 degrés vers le sud la limite inférieure de l'aire d'habitat du genre Tinamotis, fixée jusqu'ici au niveau du 40e degré.

Read-Admiral Jules Alexandre Ingouf (1846–1901) was an officer in the French navy (1861–1901) who explored and collected in Argentina. e commanded the Volage, which surveyed the Straits of Magellan (1882). He became commandant of the French coastguard service (1899).
