UK Bird lists - what do the letters mean? (1 Viewer)

20 years ago I was a young ornathologist - I am now in my early thirties, and I am redescovering the joys of birdwatching - plus the joy of buying new equipment!

I have been looking at the bird list in particular the Scottish list and I notice that after the bird name that there are confusing letters? Can someone help me out by explaining what they mean?

Here are some examples

Western Capercaillie Tetrao urogallus B, C
Grey Partridge Perdix perdix A, C

Thanks
