Identification
11–13 cm (4½-5 in)
Relatively large and long-tailed manakin without much sexual dimorphism. Mainly green and yellow with greyish colors on bare parts.
- Eye ring pale
- Upperparts moss-green
- Underparts olive-yellow at breast, pale yellow at the belly
- Tail long and grey
- Legs and eye grey
Sexes similar
Similar species
Some females of other species are similar in coloration but usually have shorter tail, are smaller, or have colored legs and/or eyes.
Distribution
South America: found in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru east of the Andes.
Taxonomy
Formerly placed in the genus Chloropipo. The Choco Manakin was formerly included here.
Subspecies
Two subspecies are recognized1:
- C. h. holochlora:
- C. h. viridior:
- Foothills of south-eastern Peru (Cusco and north-western Puno)
Habitat
Lowland and foothill, moist and wet forests.
Behaviour
Diet
Not a lot is known about their diet; they are thought to be mainly insectivorous although they are occasionally seen in fruiting trees.
