Hi all,

I've just bought a 400D and want to get a telephoto lens to get me started with birding. Quite a lot of people have recommended the Sigma 135-400 to me but this is really a bit outside my budget at the moment and I don't seem to be able to find any second hand that aren't still pretty expensive (the all seem to be over £300). I'm thinking about getting a 70-300mm to get me started until I can afford to upgrade. I've seen some good second hand deals on the Tamron 70-300 F4.5/5.6 LD Macro. Will this fit the 400D? Has anyone got any experience of using this lens or examples of photos they've taken with it and would you recommend this as a good lens for a beginner? Thanks

Tamron make versions of this lens to fit Canon so make sure you get a canon fit. I would say that ideally you need more than 300mm, otherwise you'll need to get fairly close but you can get good images IF you get close enough. you can get a new one for only £119.
