'Amakihi getting a meal
Yet another lovely honeycreeper in Hosmer Grove, the 'amakihi.

Technical note: didn't realize until after I processed the RAW file that this was at ISO 3600. I'm amazed it turned out so clean.

Two lovely uploads of this gallery rare flanken. I do like this one, showing how it feeds.

Reading your description, that must be a pretty darn good camera and you must have steady arms. A lovely capture of this species.

Thanks everyone! The 'amakihi was nice enough to show up within 3 meters of me and feed for a while, so I was able to get some very good shots; this one wasn't cropped at all!

Regarding the camera settings, I've found that in good light, the D7000 makes very good, largely noise-free images all the way up to ISO 6400 (that is, after RAW processing and noise reduction in DxO Optics Pro). Definitely glad I picked one up before heading out to Hawaii!p
