Surprisingly it wasn't the color that first alerted me to its presence. I was looking at the feeders behind my home and the bird was highlighted in the treeline against the light background of the field behind it. The shape made me think "Wow, that is a thin-looking female House Sparrow" until I put the bins up on it and picked out the coloring. I have had the pleasure of having one male Indigo Bunting visit my feeders through all of last summer. Hopefully either this one or the one that was next to it will continue to stick around as well.
