Great Gray Owl on tripod

Great Gray Owl on tripod (Strix nebulosa)

I discarded my tripod in hopes of getting a good handheld flight shot. After firing off a few frames of an incoming Great Gray, I naturally turned away as I expected his landing spot would be too close to me for a decent shot. When I was about 20 ft. from my original location I turned around to see the owl's new perch.

Congratulations to almar with his entry P10905631 of a heron stood beside a fisherman holding a rod. I must admit it got my vote as well, as much for the composition and juxtaposition of the heron and fisherman as anything. His entry attracted 83/312 votes cast.

Second place went to s_linste with his entry entitled Great Grey Owl on tripod which must be one of those once in a lifetime shots surely! Anyway it was a great opportunity well taken. His entry attracted 39/312 votes cast.

Third placed was Marysan who has been well placed in several competitions has previously won two of them. Her entry this month was Terns and More Terns a shot that could easily have been taken in my area where industry and birds exist side by side. Her entry attracted 25/312 votes cast.

There were several very worthy entries submitted both in respect of theme interpretation and technical quality. No one was a loser.

A big thank you to evreyone who took the time to enter and to view the entries and cast your vote.

The entries will be left in place for a few days after which they will be moved to their appropriate geographical forums. Details of the July theme challenge will then follow.

Congratulations on placing 2nd in this month's BF competition, s_linste. You were quick to take advantage of a once in a lifitime opportunity for a great photo op, well done!

Love it! Birs and cameras is a bit like oil & water they don't go together well..
We have some critters that disappear the minute the camera is turned on.
It maybe a hint.. we should all leave our tripods out ?
