Gray Treefrog/Cope's Gray Treefrog.jpg
Gray Treefrog/Cope’s Gray Treefrog (Dryophytes versicolor/Dryophytes chrysoscelis: Hylidae) Phylogenetically they are sister species and cannot be separated morphologically, even in hand. They also occupy the same habitat and range. Vocalization will separate them but when I normally find one they are not calling (lol). The Gray Treefrog is a diploid while Cope’s Gray Treefrog is a tetraploid. They are variously colored from gray, green or brown and every shade in-between blending in with their surroundings. Males in breeding have a darker throat than the females. They are 3.8-5.1 cm (1.5-2.0 in) long.
