Great Spotted Woodpecker - male (Dendrocopos major)

Not posted any pics since last year... 14 Feral Cats (I'm not exaggerating, although not more than 3 at the same time) after the birds has meant I've spent a lot more time watching the birds than posting. I've now discouraged most of the cats, but there's still 4 that are smarter than me... well, they think they are.

Anyway, here's a male GSW from yesterday... through the double glazing as usual.

I'll probably be absent again as soon as the fledgling Starlings show up in a few weeks, as they're easy pickings for the cats, so I'll need to keep watch more.

Pleased to see you back, Chris, though sorry to hear the trouble you are having with feral cats.

A stunning shot of this handsome chap.

Lovely pecker capture.
Def. not how it should be. I am not against pet cats in general but their killings/pressure of/on "true" wildlife is not acceptable. Not an acceptable status (I read your comments) towards birds. By the way, domestic cats kill amphibians and insects (butterflies) the same way.

It is great that you have taken on that Protector role for the birds, Chris.

Handsome Woodie; Sublime shot!
