Inca Dove
Centered in Mexico, this species has expanded its range in recent decades They are usually found around human dwellings foraging on the ground. The name "Inca" is a misnomer; they do not occur In the land of the Inca civilization in South America. However a proposal to change it to "Aztec Dove" failed in the AOS committee (the vote was split 4-5). Now the AOS has embarked on a pilot program to change "harmful" English bird names and the first bird on the hit list is "Inca Dove" to be changed because it name is "derogatory or culturally unsuitable." Regardless of what English name they choose, the scientific name "C. inca" will remain.
