Plains Garter Snake

Plains Garter Snake (Thamnophis radix)

Caught this little thing laying in road. Got out of car and laid down with it. Nice day, snake knows a good thing when it see's it. Black bars on lips is good field mark for Plain's Garter. Of course if one is laying in a road and "lookin" at snake lips, that person might not be doing enough birding. Shoo'd it to shoulder and cover before leaving, many never make it across roads.

Thanks for the comments and time all. Herding instinct takes over when encontered in roadways,
shoo' snakes and turtles across and watch occasional one fingered salute from other traffic.
Had a nice working distance of well over a meter with rig, makes a big sissy look brave.

Thanks for the time Tony, Kim. Appreciate it. That one was just a little squirt, maybe 10 inches long. Seen one day after at least twice as long. Probably a female about ready to make a whole bunch of "little squirts" Lot of traffic, could only escort across road and hope for best.
