Purple Roller - Coracias naevius
Just back from a 12 day Photographic Safari in the Kruger Park.
Its seldom that one is able to get close enough to a Purple Roller to get a good photo. They are a lot shier than the more common European and Lilac-breasted varieties. Being focused on this one and expecting it to take-off as another vehicle pulled up was the right thing to do and I was definitely smiling when I saw what I had managed to capture.
Location
Kruger National Park, South Africa
Date taken
8th April 2013
Scientific name
Coracias naevius
Equipment used
Canon 5D III and 300 f2.8 IS II lens
This is a amazing, I have tried to take a satisfactory photo of these birds and I have found them to be difficult.
Well done.
