Red grouse

Red grouse (Lagapus lagapus scoticus)

A visit to the Yorkshire Moors today with Ivan Ellison (thanks Ivan!) enabled me to get red grouse. I did them a few years ago when new to digital photography and I ruined the originals so I was over the moon to get them today. The light was dim but I managed to get a lot of sharp shots so I am doubly over the moon.

This is a crop since there is another bird in front of the one in view. However the crop reveals the background vegetation how I like to see it. I will post the fulll frame version tomorrow.
Habitat
Heather moorland
Location
West Yorkshire
Date taken
3rd August 2010
Scientific name
Lagapus lagapus scoticus
Equipment used
Canon 20D Sigma 300 f2.8 + 1.4 converter ,tripod

o:) But I love this crop, so different and effective... I would have never thought of it!!! :eek!:

I'm so glad you could do some photography, your dear 20D seems to be working fine, what a gorgeous job it has done along with your finger!!! ;) Love it!!!

Longing for seeing that anounced full-framed version!!! o:) Cheers, Adrian!!! B :)

I really like that streaky grey-green vegetation, almost like mist or even snow in the air, which I would associate with grouse as they're mountain birds here. Also, it's much livelier than a flat, even color. Very nice! And I like the feel of the grouse being down towards the corner and the shot being taken from down low. It's like the grouse is sharing the grassy view with us, showing it off for the guests. Lovely!

This crop works brilliantly Adrian!! gives a wonderful feeling for the Yorkshire Moors my friend, superbly composed image, :t::t::t:
