A Good Day for Cardinals - 1 (Cardinalis cardinalis)

I had a great Cardinal day recently, able to photograph 3 of the 4 Cardinals that regularly come into the backyard, the only one missing is the female Pyrrhuloxia. I managed to nab this Female Northern Cardinal, a Male Northern Cardinal, and a Male Pyrrhuloxia.

Backyard, Hereford, Arizona, USA
Date taken
May 29, 2008

And she looks so healthy. Mine are all starting to look very worn and tired. Heat doesn't help either I guess. Beautiful Lisa.

This is an exceptionally good shot. Good clarity and (because of the 1D MKIII) very good bit-depth for even density and tonal quality. Using a 1.4 T/C with the 100-400 is a bit dodgy IMHO, ;) as the auto focus becomes slower and there tends to be too much "seeking" do to the variable f stops in the focal lengths, that being said this came out quite will. I have this combination and almost never use it. If you look at Canons recomendations neither of their T/C's are recomended for use with zoom lenses. :scribe: Once again, very nice image: gets :t: :t: :t: :t: out of 5

Nice image again Lisa. I use my 100-400 with a 1.4 teleconvertor all the time. When the light is good, no problems. I use the Kenko Pro 300 and have good results.

Three great captures of these beautiful birds Lisa.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments.
Mark, it does slow down the autofocus a bit. I haven't tried the 1.4 with the 400mm need to do that, as I take most of my birding shots at that length.
