Pied Kingfisher (Ceryle rudis)

It was just 30 minutes after dawn when I came across 3 of these fishing in a small pond. I actually manged to get all the together but then one was chased off by a Malachite kingfisher (which I photgraphed ;-). I actually got 15 species within an hour in and around a pond no bigger than 25 feet square ;-)

I have decided to post this for this months comp as I like the water droplets it produced after a shake off!

A very difficult exposure to get right - white against near black. Excellent result!

We had a family of three perch on our lodge at Makasutu every morning -fantastic birds!
