I'm not sure but I think this might be what is called a 'mackerel sky'? Does anyone know?

All I know is I've not seen it before.

This picture was taken about the same time as my last one sunset image, but from a quite different angle.

don't know what they call it, Delia, but it sure is a remarkable sky, and a splendid photo you've made, many tfs!!!

a sky dappled with rows of small white fleecy (typically cirrocumulus) clouds, like the pattern on a mackerel's back.

Yes! Mackerel clouds for sure! And this set reminds me of those cartoons of a school of fish in formation as a giant fish chasing away a predator :D
