square-tailed nightjar
I stumbled accross a pair of these lovely birds in an area of sandy scrub along the mozambiquan coastline near vilanculo. they simultaneously flew up (scaring the life out of me!) and then resettled only about 3m away. Knowing they were there, I scanned and scanned until eventually I found one again thanks to its wide open, beady-black eye - as they were obviously more aware of my movements as I was their's! After a few minutes of photographing and admiring these close birds, I let them be, ready to become invisible towards the next passer-by... one of my most memorable experiences

Like this one as well, looks like he's about ready to bolt. Excellent series, and you have a wonderful birding memory.
