Sun and moon comparison

Sun and moon comparison

I produced this image to illustrate why we get total solar eclipses. The apparent diameter of the moon is equal to that of the sun, I used the same photographic equipment for both images, so the scale is the same.
The spots on the sun are sunspots.
I must point out that it is dangerous to point any bins, lenses or any other optical device at the sun, as you will damage your eyes.
I used a special solar filter which reflects 99.999% of the sun's light, heat and other dangerous radiations.
Location
Doncaster, South Yorkshire
Equipment used
Canon 10D, 500 mm lens and 2 times extender. Solar filter for the sun shot
