Ultramarine Kingfisher (Todiramphus leucopygius)
This is an Ultramarine Kingfisher, probably female, near "Hell's Point" (site of several WW2 battles) near the city of Honiara on Guadalcanal. It's not a great quality photograph but I don't believe one has been posted on Birdforum yet, so I thought I'd post it.
Habitat
This one was observed perched in jungle/forest tree-tops near a clearing.
Location
Photographed on Guadalcanal Island near Honiara in the Solomon Islands.
Date taken
26 July 2012 - I'm finally getting around to go through some old work pictures from trips to the South Pacific.
Scientific name
Todiramphus leucopygius
Equipment used
An unrecalled point and shoot digital camera.
