wryneck #2

wryneck #2 (Jynx torquilla)

This is how I found my first wryneck, a bird that I knew only from pictures. It was foraging in the grass reminding me of a starling or a very large finch, but with an unfamiliar plumage, surely a species I'd never seen before! The bird flew away almost immediately, it landed out of sight. I walked a little further behind a bush, and stood still, hoping that the unknown bird would return. It did!
