Interesting Chiffchaff, UK (1 Viewer)

Anyone have any decent experience or knowledge of 'Biscay Chiffchaff' from the northern part of Iberia? Proximity-wise I would have thought it more likely to occur than classic Ibe Chiff, and seem to recall reading that it's more or less a mixed singing Iberian Chiffchaff, can't remember where on the scale of physical appearance it falls though. I assume its just the zone of intergrade between Iberian and Common Chiffs though, but its still as likely as anything to explain the origins of such mixed singers with elements of Iberian in their appearance

A hybrid can also call like a pure Iberian Chiffchaff, and hybrids can also pass the measure-based discriminant function, so perhaps a DNA sample is required... I believe that mtDNA (which can be acquired from a feather sample) could be enough, as most hybrid pairings are between a male Iberian and female Common (and the hybrids have a reduced fertility).

Here's my best shot from saturday showing the yellow fore supercilium, the weak eye-ring and the brown legs. Also on Surfbirds stop press. Will now try and sort out my MP3s

cheers, alan
