I am constructing a species-level phylogenetic hypothesis for the Thamnophilidae based on DNA sequence data. In the process of building such a large phylogeny, I am revising the genus-level taxonomy of the family.

I'd guess this is the split of the streaked / grey Myrmotherula groups. Not sure which is the residual Myrmetherula.

Both: "We take great pleasure in naming this genus after Morton and Phyllis Isler in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the knowledge of the taxonomy and systematics of Neotropical birds, especially antbirds of the family Thamnophilidae."

I recall someone suggesting that they should all just be 'antthingies'.

A Brumfield et al. 2007 paper suggests that lots more generic changes will be needed in this family. For example, look at all the different nodes Myrmeciza comes out in:

Great to see that this work in rationalising genera for the antbirds is being progressed.

Two species have been moved from Myrmotherula to the new genus Isleria: Plain-throated Antwren, Isleria hauxwelli, and Rufous-bellied Antwren, Isleria guttata (see Bravo et al., 2012).
