    Bat ID Spain

Thanks for that. It turns out I can't get the video on here. When I get chance I'll find somewhere else to post it and link to it instead. Are there any good websites for listening to calls of European bats? I can't seem to find any. Adam

    Bat ID Spain

Hi Folks, Just back from Tossa de mar, near Girona, and I need some help with IDing a bat I heard on the detector there. It was audible to the human ear and I picked it up around 20kHz. There was a really distinct call, like individual intense chirps/pangs that were the bits we could hear...

    Birding In Staffordshire

Some good news. You might remember a petition to stop the Council 'selling off' countryside sites across the county. Well, the debate finally happened and the 12,000 strong petition against the idea formed part of that debate. The outcome was that the sites won't be sold off! With of a vote of...

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Not sure if other wildlife of the county can live on this thread, but a clouded yellow at Swettenham Meadows today was rather nice. The place is dripping in other butterflies too. Adam

    seven arches Bramall

Depending where you are based, it might be worth going that little further to Etherow Country Park in Romiley. Kingfisher there on a daily basis, mainly up on the pools as you go up to the bird hide. http://www.stockport.gov.uk/2013/3000/8784/etherowwalks From the Visitor Centre, head up around...

Rare and Scarce Birds in Staffordshire

Either Arbourfield Drive and a long walk through the site, or park at the end of Mossfield Road at the end of the industrial estate and head north. Just don't leave any valuables in your car, they're not always safe, especially tucked away at the end of Mossfield Road. Adam

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Not sure if you guys class it as Cheshire, but I had a juv dipper, kingfisher and spotted flycatcher at Etherow Country Park yesterday. Also looks like tufties bred there, with a female and three young around a nest. Any more info on what other species they get there, other than mandarin? The...

The Natural History Of Staffordshire: Fauna and Flora

Attended an incredible walk hosted by Butterfly Conservation today on the edge of the Peak District. Dark green frits, holly blue, small heath, six-belted clearwing (a first for Staffs Moorlands??) and loads of other common butterflies too. Topped it off with 13+ frog orchid spikes...

Rare and Scarce Birds in Staffordshire

From M6 north, take J15, follow the A500 for about 8 miles and take the exit signposted "Kidsgrove, Tunstall, Longbridge Hayes Ind. Est." The road swoops round and back under the A500. Go straight over seven round abouts, that's left hand lane, middle lane, left hane lane, middle lane (3rd exit...

Hawfinch reported at Coombes!! Seeing how I can't get there until Saturday, I'm going to tell myself that it must be made up ;) In all honesty, it's a very good record though, I'm just jealous it isn't my record! Sadly, my time at Coombes has come to an end (again/for now) and I'm off to...

http://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/Bird-prey-killed-RSPB-offer-reward-information/story-26508574-detail/story.html Sad news from North Staffs. Thought I would share in case anyone has any info on this. These people need catching and punishing for their crimes. Adam

    Birding In Staffordshire

Great morning at Coombes Valley today. Six singing pied flycatchers, a female pied fly, two redstarts and a whitethroat were all new for the year and the first decent reports/sightings of the star species. The pied fly and redstarts are in the usual places; in Clough Meadow and around the pond...
