    Rutland Ospreys 2015

Had a rather damp day at Rutland Water on Saturday. When it started to brighten up in the late afternoon, 33(11) flew over lagoon 1 getting mobbed by the local gulls and waders. He made one circuit, then swooped and grabbed a pike from the lagoon. I got some shots of him as he headed back...

    Water Rail knack?

I was at Rutland Water on wednesday, watching the ospreys and 2 Water Rails were showing really well in front of Waderscrape Hide. They are quite often seen in the edges of the clearings in the reed bed. The last couple of years, there have been excellent sightings of a Water Rail family...

    Tern dive

Spent a little while photographing common terns diving for fish at the sluice gates at Attenborough. Got plenty of hovering shots, but was trying for something different. Shame I clipped the wingtip.

    Dirty Harry

A rather grubby looking heron doing a fly by while I was watching the young ospreys at Manton Bay. Looks as though its been mud wrestling!

    Fallen House Martin Nest

Only just spotted this. This happened to us way back when I was at school. My dad put the pieces of the nest back together in a sort of chicken wire "hammock" and screwed that into its original position under the eaves. The adults started feeding the chicks again as soon as they were back in...

    First flight

I went over to Derby on Wednesday to check out the peregrines nesting on the cathedral. The first of the two chicks had fledged on Monday and I was lucky enough to be there when the second one took its first flight. I got some nice shots of it on its first flight - and its first attempt at a...

    Rutland Ospreys 2010

Cracking shots Ian - (note to self - I'm gonna need a bigger lens!) I've been over there the last two Saturdays, but haven't got pictures as good as that. Although, Mrs 5R did come and take a good look at me when I was stood at the bridge on Saturday. The previous weekend 5R caught a pike down...
