    flycatcher ID South India

Thanks for the repsonses! We are far from a consensus I'm afraid. I was going through the galleries of both species on OBC and our bird was resembling Kashmir to my eyes too. Although we could not see the fanning of the tail, which is described at some of the pictures as an ID feature. I don't...

    flycatcher ID South India

Hi, We saw this flycatcher at Jungle Hut in Masinagudi, Karnataka in January. The amount of orange was striking on the breast and flanks. Is it an extremely orange coloured Red-breasted Flycatcher or could it be a Kashmir? Thanks, Attila

Northern Laos: Mountain forest edges... (2 of 3)

You're right of course. I was mislead by a first impression of the tail and the hood and hadn't googled pics.

Northern Laos: Mountain forest edges... (2 of 3)

I really think bird No. 4 is a Grey Treepie. Long tail with white-tipped feathers, chestnut udertail and head pattern seem all right and jizz also suggests a larger bird than a Bulbul. Attila

Boundaries of the WP in Egypt

Thanks Richard once again! I bet a few WP listers will be upset by losing their species ticked in Northern Mauritania.

Boundaries of the WP in Egypt

Thanks Richard! I guess WP boundaries will be redefined in the upcoming Handbook of the birds of Western Palearctic by Shirihai et al. so probably the situation of the Halaib Triangle will also be cleared. Yes, I heard about Istvan's expedition. I am also curious about the outcome. Attila

Boundaries of the WP in Egypt

Hi, Does anybody know, whether the Gebel Elba region of Egypt is part of the Western Palearctic? I can't find anything on the internet. Gebel Elba lies in the extreme south-eastern corner of Egypt beyond Shalateen, north of the Sudanese border. It was off limits for foreigners for a long time...

Egyptian Nightjar's at Auberge Kasbah Dakouah

I arrived back on 16 March from a 16 day Morocco and Western Sahara trip. Hope to produce a trip report soon. We have seen 224 species including most targets. The torrential rains have changed the mouth of the Sousse considerably. The road leading to the Red-necked Nightjar site was washed...

Water or Rock Pipit in Hungary?

Thanks Mark! I'm afraid Szabi didn't see the pipit. He is not really into twitching lately. Attila

4 x ID from Nepal lowlands

I also go for Black Redstart. Blue-fronted looks similar but the tailpattern excludes it. According to the Ripley Guide it should be the rufiventris race of Black Redstart. Attila

Water or Rock Pipit in Hungary?

Thank you Mark for your opinion! Fortunately 2 members off the Hungarian Rarities Committee have seen the bird, so now it is up to them to decide whether it was the first Rock Pipit for Hungary or not. Fingers crossed. Attila
